Hi,
I'm sure all of you will have noticed the amount of wind we've been having
other the last 9 days...to say it's been a touch blowy would be an
understatement!
The damage caused by the New Year's day winds have almost all been cleared
- a seriously big thanks to everyone who turned up and spent the day
working away at removing the fallen trees...failing light prevented us
from clearing the final spot but a serious effort was put in by all and
what a difference. It's amazing how much work can get processed by a dozen
hard working guys...impressive.
We've had another wind swept night last night and it is very likely that
there are more trees down. The Forestry have apparently got a crew in
today to clear some of the windblow so hopefully they will have caught the
stuff that came down last night as well as the last bit from the weekend.
With that in mind, this Saturday will be another fun-packed day of tree
clearing (assuming there are trees to be cleared) and we will need to do
some repairs to the trail where the uprooted trees have removed the actual
surface.
If you have the time to spare we would again appreciate any help you can
offer...meeting at 10am at the Forestry building and going from there. Old
clothes, sturdy footwear and work gloves are required as is some food and
drink for lunch.
In the meantime, we have also added a Trail Status system on the website,
this basically shows at a glance which trails are open and which are
closed (Green = open, Red = closed!)...currently Pipedream and Cannonball
Run are closed as the Harvesting is still to finish, we should be finding
out later this week a completion timescale for that.
Hope to see you there,
Richard.
